The Von Lankens Compare the New Sony HXR-NX5U NXCAM Professional Camcorder With the Panasonic HMC150 AVCCAM
The
Von Lankens received a Sony HXR-NX5U NXCAM professional camcorder for 48 hours from Sony, over the weekend, for evaluation. In this footage, Mark makes a lowlight/gain comparison, between the Sony HXR-NX5U and the Panasonic AG-HMC150 AVCCAM, the only other AVCHD professional camcorder currently available on the market utilizing three-1/3" imaging chips. The Sony HXR-NX5U NXCAM employs CMOS imagers and the Panasonic AG-HMC150 AVCCAM employs CCD imagers, so Mark compared the effect a camera flash has on the footage from both professional video cameras as well. At the time this footage was shot, the NX5U was suffering from back focus issues, and is not what a properly functioning Sony HXR-NX5U NXCAM looks like. The HXR-NX5U was out of focus, so the HXR-NX5U NXCAM images appear much softer than they should be. Overall image brightness and noise levels should not be affected though, and should accurately reflect normal Sony HXR-NX5U NXCAM professional camcorder performance in those regards. Mark has re-shot the comparison, using auto-focus, but has not had a chance to look at that footage yet. When Mark has a chance to review the new comparison footage of the HXR-NX5U and HMC150 and uploads it to us, we will bring it to you right away!
